Hi again! It’s almost springtime, and I’m looking forward to getting out of the house more often. One drawback of running a business from home is recognizing the formal daily separation of “I’m at home” vs. “I’m at work” and I’ve tackled that by starting the workday by playing a computer chess game every morning. I can beat the software at Level 1, but Level 2 has a 50/50 success rate. I met with my tax preparer last week and we decided that I need to go LLC for the business. So I’ll be doing that pretty soon.

I’m also starting an exciting project for a client! She has some handouts in Word, and I’m going to incorporate them into a single PowerPoint presentation that has instructions for her clients and that has the Word documents embedded into it. Instead of sending 4 or 5 Word documents and a separate list of instructions, she’ll have everything in one presentation. I’m looking forward to getting started on that project. I enjoy helping my clients be more productive! It’s going to be a go0d week at Urban Admin.

Things are going well so far! I’m networking, meeting lots of great people, and learning about blogging. I spent the past week working on lots of branding materials and migrating from my desktop to my laptop. I’d like to sit in a coffee shop and run the business from there. Of course, being a new business, I need to watch my discretionary spending. Sure, I could get a plain cup of coffee, but I love those mocha-caramel-turtle-latte drinks with mint pieces and whipped cream. Then, of course, the muffins and scones look pretty good too. Before I know it, there’s close to $10.00 gone from my pocket. My branding is going well. I now have a ton of business cards, pens, and even t-shirts with my logo. If you see me around the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, you’ll know me. Just look for the Urban Admin t-shirt!

My website is live (thanks to Scott at HolisticGeek.com), and I’m excited about the progress I’ve made starting my business!

Urban Admin is about six weeks old, and I already have a couple of clients. I really enjoy working with them! My first “official” task as a business owner was to hire two Executive Vice Presidents. Their names are Patrick and Janis. Their salaries are relatively cheap – I pay them in cat food and toys. I’ve also been meeting with SCORE, writing my business plan, and designing my branding. And of course, I’m always networking to grow the business! It’s an exciting time in my life and I’m looking forward to the future.
